PRIVATE BUSINESSES ARE NOT BOUND BY THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION

 

 

The other day at work, all employees were asked to sign something which basically said that our company could fire us if they discovered that we said something bad about them or another employee on the internet. This was mainly in reference to social networking sites like Facebook and the drama that always ensues on them. Yeah, it could be used against an employee with a blog or website, but the main reason for it was Facebook drama, which happens all the fucking time where I work.

Immediately, people started bitching about how this was a violation of their right to privacy and freedom of speech. "This is unconstitutional! I have the right to say what I want about this place! Waah waah waah!" Yeah, it's right there in the Constitution: "Private businesses shall not fire their workers for openly complaining about their place of employment". Remember that part?

Have any of you fucking idiots even read the Constitution? Did you sleep through elementary school? The Constitution does protect our right to privacy and free speech: FROM THE GOVERNMENT. Your employer is a privately-owned business, not a government entity. As such, it is not bound to abide by the Bill of Rights. Are there labor laws that they must follow regarding the treatment of employees? Yes. But none of those laws prohibit them from firing your crybaby ass if you go around the internet bitching about them.

Your employment at that business is completely voluntary. You don't like the rules and regulations set at your place of employment? No one's forcing you to work there. You have every right to bitch about your job, just like they have every right to fire you if they catch you doing it. Put yourself in the employer's shoes. Would YOU want to pay some whiny asshole who does nothing but tell people how bad your establishment is, and attempt to dissuade them from patronizing it? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Why anyone would even use their real name and explicitly state their place of employment on the internet is beyond me. Why do you think I've never named the place I work for? Because if I did, they'd eventually find this site and link it back to me, and I'd either be fired or forced to quit after being turned into a social pariah by the group of cliquey assholes who run the cash registers and stock the shelves. Frankly, I don't hate my job that much. Yeah, there's a large group of people at my work who are straight up dickers. Yeah, we're underpaid and overworked. Yeah, the union I'm forced to give $10 a week out of my paycheck to is run by greasy dago assholes who have their priorities grossly out of whack. But even after all of that bullshit, I've never once threatened to quit over any of it, because I'm not a crybaby bitch who can't control my outbursts on Facebook and other publically viewable channels.

The people complaining about this are the same morons who add their bosses on Facebook, call out sick, then post shit about how they're out partying it up. You'd have to be mega-retarded to do something like that, and you have to be mega-retarded to think that your employer has any obligation to keep you around as an employee when you can't shut up about how bad you think they are. If it's really that bad, leave!

Or you can bitch about it on a website and its associated forum. That's okay too.
